Why should you get licensed
Pennsylvania Helmet LawThe law mandates the use of DOT approved headgear for ALL RIDERS under 21 years of age, and ALL those operating with a motorcycle learner's permit regardless of age or riding 'experience'.
Exemptions include those over 21 years old who have been licensed to operate a motorcycle for at least 2 FULL Calendar Years or have successfully completed a motorcycle safety course approved by PennDOT / MSP / Motorcycle Safety Foundation. In addition, PA law mandates the use of eye-protection for all motorcyclists and their passengers unless operating a motorized pedalcycle or a three-wheeled motorcycle equipped with an enclosed cab. Approved eye-potection includes a Helmet Face Shield, Goggles, Glasses, or Sunglasses (highly recommended to use 'motorcycle' specific glasses). A Windshield is NOT considered a legal method of eye-protection. Passengers are governed by the same laws as the operator of the motorcycle. ALL PASSENGERS under 21 years of age MUST wear a DOT approved helmet. Exemption for passenger - IF the operator is legally exempt from wearing a helmet, the passenger may also choose provided they are both over 21 years of age. |
