The Greater Pittsburgh Motorcycle Safety Pledge
MOTORCYCLISTS / RIDER - I PLEDGE to make safety a priority, to ride only when alert and fully prepared for the challenges of motorcycling. Knowing that I never truly ride alone and that all of those in my life ride with me, to them I PLEDGE to ride within my limits, separate drinking and riding, obey traffic laws and make Arriving Alive my greatest priority. I PLEDGE to get training and update my skills every season improving both my physical and mental riding abilities.
PASSENGERS - I PLEDGE to ride only with riders who place my safety first, who provide me with the proper riding gear, who separate drinking and riding and who look to impress me with their concern for my well being instead of with their ability to ride fast or be brave.
MOTORISTS - I PLEDGE to treat motorcyclists with the respect by always looking twice, using turn signals, checking my blind spots before switching lanes, providing them with an increased space cushion and eliminating distractions while driving. I PLEDGE to act as if a loved one was riding on each and every motorcycle I see and I promise to drive like their life depends on me, because ultimately, it may.
